Digital environment moving as faster as it possible, so that is why DNV GL decided to turn «paper industry» into electronic!
Classification society achieves full-scale production capability of electronic certificates. Digitally signed electronic documents are becoming easier, more secure and more common in all industries, shipping included.
“The electronic certificate regime offered by DNV GL has provided us with a unique advantage in the contemporary market, where leverage from digitalized high-end efficient work processes plays an integral role,” said Morten Nygaard, fleet manager, Teekay Offshore, owners of one of the vessels used in the pilot projects. “It is our intention to benefit from the new regime within the shortest possible time frames.”
Main benefits:
- Digitally signed electronic documents are both safe and easy to share with charterers, ports, flag administrations, insurers and other stakeholders.
- there is no risk of losing a certificate.
- paper handling is eliminated (printing, scanning, archiving)
- The documents are protected against tampering and carry a digital signature and a unique tracking number (UTN) for the purpose of checking their validity and authenticity.
The certificates are published on the customer portal, My DNV GL Fleet status, immediately upon completion of a survey or issuance from a DNV GL office. Certificates can also be received by utilizing an e-mail subscription facility in My DNV GL or delivered in an electronic format onboard the vessel.
Almost 50 flag state administrations have now granted DNV GL the authority to issue electronic statutory certificates on their behalf, and that it expects this number to grow even more in the near future.
